Wee Folk Art - People always ask me how I get my stitches so even. Truth of the matter is I don't know. I have a very hard time when I try to make them uneven. Probably is some genetic thing passed down from my dad. Art was an engineer. We both look at the world and see patterns and order. His drawings, my stitching, reflect that order. I've given people pointers on improving their stitching, but NEVER have I seen anything quite as clever as this! By making 2 marks on the side of your thumb, and moving your thumb along as you work, you have a built in gauge for exact stitch length, without marking up your fabric. Genius, right? PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY THUMB NOR MY IDEA. I've tried desperately to find the original source to no avail. This anonymous thumb, perhaps the most intelligent thumb in all of history, is plastered all over the internet, without accolades being bestowed on the deserving individual. If you are acquainted with this thumb or happen to discover the identity of the person attached to this thumb, please share a link with us. I truly would like to give credit where credit is due. In the meantime, if you struggle with creating even stitches, especially the blanket stitch, give this a try. Truly, genius :) ~Kimara~ Photo by... to be announced upon discovery! | Facebook
GENIUS way to keep your stitches even! Some nice tips on the discussion thread, too (tattoo 1" and 1/2" marks on side of finger, no worries if your kids run off with your measuring tape, LOL)
