Shumba Camp is perfectly situated to take advantage of the plains game and predator concentrations of the Busanga Plains, being situated as it is within close proximity to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains. Shumba is named after a favourite species in the area - prides of lion sometimes up to 20 strong!

The Plains of Plenty

From leaping lions to unexpected elephant perspectives, there's never a dull moment in the Busanga Plains. It's also so good to see Scarface, the dominant Papyrus Pride male, and his offspring, The Little Prince, doing so well.

Tribute to a Busanga Plains Patriarch

This magnificent Busanga Plains male lion duo has been reduced to one. The pair was a fearsome coalition – reigning over a large territory in the Northern Kafue, protecting their pride. Caring patriarchs, gentle with their cubs and ruthless with anyone who tried to move into their territory. One of the brother’s only mistake? Wandering outside Kafue National Park, where hunters were waiting for him. Hunted in his prime, he should have been able to sire many more litters. His surviving…
