TAIWANESE STREET FOOD
We honestly didn't have any idea what to expect from Taiwanese food and although we have only scratched the surface of what is on offer we have been blown away with the incredible range of food available. Here is but a small sampling of what we have found so far:

Visit MOUNT BROMO - What You Need To Know
Mount Bromo is probably Indonesia’s most famous active volcano and sits at the Eastern end of Java between Surabaya and Yogyakarta. If you would like to make this into an exciting and authentic experience (and save a bit of money in the process) you can fairly easily do it by yourself.

What To See And Do in JAKARTA
Most travellers head straight for Bali, but as we've learned there are plenty of reasons to also check out the capital city, Jakarta. Although somewhat crowded and suffering from pollution, those who visit will find it to be a lively, bustling city with something to discover around every corner.

What To See And Do In Surakarta (SOLO), Indonesia
Solo is known as the “Spirit of Java”, and for a good reason. Although not as charming as Yogyakarta you should consider putting this city into your next destination wish-list when you visit Indonesia and find out if this is true.

Blue Flames of KAWA IJEN, Indonesia
Kawah Ijen. A beast of a volcano, just shy of 3000 meters, will leave you gasping. Not only for air but also for a truly unique experience. Our visit to Ijen stayed with us for some time… both figuratively and literally, as our clothes continued to smell of sulphur even after washing.
Japan
Yokohama - 21st Century City
You would call it a city. In fact, second to Tokyo, Yokohama is Japan’s largest city. It’s also Japan’s largest port city. One would never say that though. Unlike Tokyo, it feels extremely quiet. The roads are relatively easy to traverse. Not that many cars or people. Downright pleasant!

Exploring SHINJUKU, Japan
In an over-priced city such as Tokyo, getting a freebie is rare and the Observation Decks of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office Building in Shinjuku is a real pleasure. Shinjuku and the surrounding area on a weekend can make for a surprising escape from the craziness of Tokyo!

Serious Tokyo Sightseeing!
Tokyo weekend sightseeing starts at Ameya Yokocho - the closest thing Tokyo has to a flea market. The massive Ueno Park is barely 5 minutes away which offers a large zoo, amusement parks, shrines, temples and of course The National Tokyo Museum.

The Elusive MOUNT FUJI
Even though everyone here says that you stand only a 1% chance of seeing Mount Fuji because of the weather, we decided that we had to at least give it a try. We started out the day’s journey by train to Hakone-Yumoto and were pleasantly surprised by being able to see Mount Fuji every now and then from the train!

Thailand
Ayutthaya, Thailand
We caught a local bus to Ayutthaya which is about 150km’s away from Kanchanaburi as the crow flies. Ayutthaya is about 70km’s north of Bangkok and is the capital of Ayutthaya province in Thailand. The city was founded in 1350 by King U Thong and proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. During1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya historical…
HUA HIN to NAKHON PATHOM
HUA HIN In a way, the six days we spent on the island of Koh Tao felt like six weeks. Some daily events became a ritual and we were sad at the thought of leaving. However, the rest of Thailand was waiting! Initially, the idea was to catch an early ferry and take a northbound train, hopefully reaching Damnoen Suduak ...
KOH TAO Scuba Diving Capital of Thailand
KOH TAO The tiny island of Koh Tao (meaning Turtle Island) welcomed us with the now-familiar overwhelming stream of touts trying to push their services upon us. We proved a disappointment to them though as we already booked (and paid for) our diving course as well as for accommodation. We also knew that our dive sho...
First time in BANGKOK, Thailand
The Chao Phraya River runs from Ayutthaya to Bangkok and it would have been awesome to take a riverboat all the way there but unfortunately, this was a rather expensive option. Instead, we opted for the typical “shared minibus” and were dropped off at Bangkok at a stop near Victory Monument. We had a hotel booked in...
Kanchanaburi, THAILAND
The train to Kanchanaburi only had 3rd class cars and this translated into wooden benches for extra comfort! Lisa somehow managed to have a snooze regardless. We chugged through mile after mile of rice paddies filled with Thai’s working them. For entertainment, I sat watching a girl almost dropping her camera out th...

DA LAT - Vietnam By Bike (Part 4)
Part 3 - Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne Mui Ne to Da Lat Distance: 200 km We knew that the next leg would take us to almost 2000 m above sea level and considering the slow progress of the previous leg the thought of hills made me very nervous. Part 2 - Arriving in Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne Distance: 245 km As early as could be expected after the previous night’s ‘activities’ we packed our stuff and hit the road. Jan offered to escort us out for the first 15km’s or so to at least make things a bit easier getting out of the city. Being Sun...
NHA TRANG - Vietnam By Bike (Part 5)
Part 4 - Da Lat Dalat to Nha Trang Distance: 160 km The oil leak worried me but I knew that today’s ride would mostly be downhill towards the coast and as long as it doesn’t get any worse we should be fine. I also had a tube of liquid gasket maker with me and at worst case, I could do a repair if needed in Nha Trang...
