The Unisa Archives has various accessions that contain resources about WW1. The following is a selection of some material available. When WW1 broke out in 1914 the Union of South Africa was a British Colony. The Union Government decided that South Africa will support Great Britain. This was not acceptable to some South Africans, especially veterans who fought against Great Britain during the Anglo Boer War (1899-1902). A rebellion ensued and the Government defeated the rebels.
