The first Southern Ground Hornbill to hatch at the park in 7 years made its entry into the world this morning. With less than 1 500 of these magnificent birds left in South Africa, this new addition is very special indeed. #umgeniriverbirdpark, #bird, #hornbill, #durban

Our White-naped Cranes have laid their first egg of the year. They normally lay 2 eggs per clutch so we expect to see the second one by the end of the weekend. This pair has never successfully bred so we are hoping they will get it right this year. #umgeniriverbirdpark, #crane, #durban, #birds

Our Great Indian Hornbills are getting into the swing of the breeding season with the female starting to seal herself into the nesting cavity. Although they have done this before, they have never produced any chicks but we are hopeful that they will get things right this year as we have made changes to their diet and nesting area as well. They are the first birds you will see as you enter the park so have a look for them on your next visit. #hornbills, #umgeniriverbirdpark, #durban
