The best tea. Grown in the Eastern Highlands of Rhodesia. The coffee might have been a bit iffy, but the tea was sublime. The coffee was iffy because the cheaper brands had chicory added to it, and the French might like that kind of thing, but I'm not French. The pure coffee was fine.

The local brew - Tanganda was a great tasting tea proudly grown and produced in Rhodesia

Boerewors (tr. farm sausage). No braai/barbecue is complete without it. The taste and texture is different than regular sausages, and it is delicious.

Boerewors is a traditional South African spiral shaped sausage that was originally created by Dutch settlers using available meat and spices. The name means ‘farmer’s sausage’ as it was often made by farmers from the animals they raised.

Biltong. Dried and cured raw meat with a very different taste than beef jerky. I miss biltong.

Spotted at the airport in Johannesburg: Biltong! Similar to jerky, this South African dried meat snack comes in beef, ostrich, kudu (venison) and other.

Ford Corsair. The car my dad drove in Rhodesia. You knew you were in Africa because the car radio had Short Wave on it in addition to Long Wave and Medium Wave. A decent car.

BMW Cheetah. There are few pictures of this vehicle; I suspect BMW is ashamed of it. It was sold in Rhodesia, and because I think there were only 9 models of new car available it was popular.

There are few pictures of this vehicle, perhaps BMW is ashamed of it, as it was assembled and sold in Rhodesia during the sanctions years! Well done, BMW!

Rhodesia is Lion Country the billboards used to say. I know lots of people preferred Castle, but for me at a braai it had be a Lion. Wors, steak, baked potato cooked in the charcoal, and a Lion in the twilight of a warm Saturday evening in Salisbury. If heaven isn't like this there'll be words.

ProNutro banana flavour. This isn't the box design of my youth, but the taste of the cereal is the same. My favourite breakfast food by far. A Rhodesian morning without ProNutro was not off to a good start.
