Nancy, a sprinbok, the mascot of the 4th South African Scottish Infantry Regiment in Delville Wood Feb 1918. Nancy's record is remarkable for she was to accompany her regiment in Egypt, France, Flanders through WW1 from 1915 until after Armistice. Nancy died in Belgium on 26th Nov 1918 and was buried with full military honours in the cemetery of the village of Hermeton-sur-Meuse. Sent to a taxidermist, she is on display at the National Museum of Military History in Johannesburg.
