Photo magic in Namibia
Living in Namibia it’s almost impossible not to photograph the beautiful wildlife and endless landscapes that are so plentiful. It’s also very challenging because of the heaps of incredible photos of wildlife and landscape that already exist, as well as the new images that are produced daily. Instead of seeing this as negative, I try to use it as motivation to create images that feel unique and tell their own stories, but in a slightly different way.

Laurent Hesemans is a Namibian filmmaker and photographer based in Windhoek. With a love for nature stemming from his childhood growing up near Sossusvlei, Laurent is passionate about exploring Namibia through his camera. He studied animation, editing and visual effects at AFDA film school in South Africa, and, together with his wife Liberty and friend Renier de Bruyn, runs Endemic Productions, a Namibian production company.

Namibia is Africa’s best kept (cinematic) secret. Known for being the country of wide open spaces, boasting a varied geographical landscape within our 824,292 km2 and the most sought-after Namib Desert, are reason enough to visit Namibia, but we’re also an ideal filming location. Blockbusters such as The Mummy or Mad Max: Fury Road are prime examples, however, there are lesser-known productions that have showcased Namibia’s beauty.
