In a cafe in the market town of Turmi, in south-western Ethiopia, the men were watching Chelsea versus Arsenal at dusk. It was noisy, so I stepped outside. She was standing at the end of the road, deep in thought. We could not speak a common language, or she chose not to answer, and I was surprised that she held my gaze. There was something on her mind and I would never get to know what it was.
