The Main Public Library, quite possibly the most beautiful building in Port Elizabeth. Building started around 1835 and it was used as a court house by 1854. It was officially opened as a library in 1902, and is the only historic library in South Africa still in use as a public library today. A beautiful example of Victorian gothic architecture, it was declared a national monument in 1973.
