Manufacturing remains a major employer in the State of Minnesota, providing work for nearly 313,000 people – roughly one in nine jobs in Minnesota. Statewide, manufacturers have added nearly 14,000 jobs since the recovery began three years ago. Top manufacturing industries in the northwestern region are foods, wood products, fabricated metal products and transportation equipment.
Minnesota manufacturers accounted for 90 percent of the state’s record 20.3 billion in exports last year. State manufacturers build everything from machinery to optics and medical instruments, electrical machinery, vehicles and plastics for consumption in foreign markets. Southeastern Minnesota – better known for a world-class medical sector. Harmony Enterprises Inc., with just 60 employees has sold hydraulic balers, compactors and other recycling equipment in 70 countries.
