Africa | Zulu Ear Plugs - South Africa.  ca. 1930 - 1940. These were most likely made in Johannesburg by craftsmen who sold them to migrant workers as gifts for their wives.  | They are made of soft wood with finely worked vinyl mosaic overlays. | At an early age, a Zulu child's earlobes were pierced and gradually stretched to allow for larger and larger ear plugs to be worn.
