Just off Route 9 in Yonkers, a half-hour drive north of New York City, the Boyce Thompson Institute is an abandoned agricultural institute where the plants have gone wild. The institute was founded by mining magnate Boyce Thompson, and opened its doors in 1924 with the goal of studying plants - abandoned in 1978.
