This 600-Square-Foot Florida Beach Cottage Is A Tiny Slice Of Paradise
Leave it to a designer who spent her childhood summers on concert tour buses to make a dated, cramped space look worthy of a ballad. "Everything on those buses served multiple purposes; the bench became a table that became a bunk," recalls Nashville-based Hannah Crowell. The decorator brought her years of spatially efficient vagabonding to this particular home, built in the mid-1980s in the vacationland of Seaside, Florida. It would need to welcome a Dallas couple and their three children, plus occasional visiting grandparents, all within a tidy 600 square feet. These St. Simons Island Homeowners Focused On Their Front Yard For The Best Reason
There was no doubt the tree would come first and the house would come second," says owner Stephanie Dixon, referring to the mighty Spanish moss-draped live oak in her St. Simons Island, Georgia, front yard. "It was the only thing left after the space was cleared. Saving this tree was worth giving up half a front porch. I saw this small lot as a blank canvas for building a house and gardens to fit into every available square foot." The new construction left only a tiny slice of backyard, so the outdoor living areas she envisioned would have to work in the front of the home. At the link, see how she reimagined traditional outdoor living spaces for her Georgia home. #home #gardenideas #gardening #southerngardening #curbappeal

the one home renovation must make you should never make it to the kitchen countertops
The One Home Renovation Mistake You Should Never Make
"The vintage green marble countertops had to go. Along with the cabinets, they were at the top of my list of things to tackle first in the kitchen. I was dreaming of granite countertops at the time and after consulting with a home construction expert, my husband and I decided that the $4,000 to replace them entirely was not in the budget (cut us some slack, we were newlyweds). So, I went with our next best option: painting." #decor #designmistakes #decormistakes #countertops #kitchenmistakes #renovation

A 120-Year-Old Athens, Georgia, Home Gets A Light-Filled Revival
The Craftsman-style home was one of the first to be built along a historic street in the Five Points area, just blocks from the University of Georgia’s campus and the scenic row of sorority and fraternity houses on Milledge Avenue. It instantly grabbed Kim Noland’s interest, as she had been looking for “something to preserve.” She tapped Tami Ramsay of the interior design firm Cloth & Kind, who had worked with her on previous projects, to team up again for this undertaking. The thoughtful renovation opened a new chapter for a mother and her three kids. #decor #homedecorations #homedesign #revival #renovation #homemakeover

Paint And A Hodgepodge Of Treasures Transformed This Quirky Lowcountry Home
While shiny and new often reign in this day and age, Charleston, South Carolina, designer Taylor Hill prefers to stick with more storied items—including the 1950s ranch she and her husband bought when moving from Greenville back to the Holy City, where she first started her design career. She was immediately drawn to this funky old place beneath live oaks on James Island. "I thought, 'I've never seen anything like this anywhere.' It's super weird, and at first it was pretty scary, but I knew that—beyond the mess—I could make it work," Taylor says. "It was hot pink on the outside with a hodgepodge of shades of white inside and lots of materials cobbled together in a way that reminded me of Swiss Family Robinson." #home #homemakeover #renovation #makeover #southernhome #lowcountry

Designer Lauren Liess reimagines a tiny Outer Banks beach house into an easygoing getaway that caters to sandy feet, wet dogs, and five children. “I loved the original cabinets when we bought the house, but we rearranged the kitchen so much that we weren’t able to salvage them,” says Lauren. To keep their old-school spirit intact, she selected a vintage-seeming style from her own collection with Unique Kitchens & Baths. “They were inspired by antique cabinets you’ll see in a lot of old farmhouses,” she notes. #decor #homedecorations #homedecorideas #kitchen #kitchendesign #homedesign

A Young Georgia Couple Restores An 1800s Family Farmhouse To Welcome The Next Generation
"I've always known we wanted to do something with the place," says Jess McNeill, who is the sixth generation to live in the Americus, Georgia, farmhouse first purchased by his ancestors in 1853. "When MeriBeth and I got married, we knew it was where we wanted to wind up, but we also knew that since it was almost 200 years old, [restoring] it was going to require a lot of effort." A young couple took care to restore their sixth generation family farmhouse by taking it apart piece by piece—then rebuilding it with many of the original materials. #decor #renovations #homemakeover #familyhome #farmhouse #vintagedesign
