This leopard was photographed on a cloudy day, so I had the vehicle positioned in order to get a soft background for a black and white image. Leopards always make good portrait images in overcast light as their eyes stand out wide and clear.
On a recent trip to Sossousvlei, Namibia, I saw a single tree with a dramatic backdrop about a kilometer from the road. I photographed it at sunset but it was not that dramatic so I went back the following morning and the sand on the mountain lit up like velvet. I placed the tree in front to give a sense of scale and desolation.
A storm was brewing on the plains of the Amboseli National Park, which created fantastic light and contrasting colours. As the winds picked up, small sand-devils were formed, but this didn't seem to phase the lone zebra on the plains.
