We recently received a very interesting picture from a client from Howick. It turns out it is a Red Headed Cockroach. This particular specimen is a female. The males are also black with red heads, but are narrower, have wings, and they can fly. They are a naturally occurring ("wild") species of cockroach. As with all insects, there will be fluctuations in population numbers from year to year. Many factors will affect this: difference in rainfall and temperature, food sources, and so on.
