This image from NASA's Dawn spacecraft shows northern terrain on the sunlit side of dwarf planet Ceres.

Ever since NASA's Dawn spacecraft arrived in the vicinity of dwarf planet Ceres, the world has been abuzz with theories as to what those mysterious white spots may be.

Two photos of the dwarf planet Ceres taken by NASA's Dawn spacecraft on Feb. 12, 2015, from a distance of about 52,000 miles (83,000 kilometers). The images have been magnified from their original size.

Dawn Approaches: Two Faces of Ceres These two views of Ceres were acquired by NASA's Dawn spacecraft on Feb. from a distance of about miles kilometers) as the dwarf planet rotated. The images have been magnified from their original size.

Maps of water in the Martian atmosphere suggest the Red Planet once had an ocean that covered 20 percent of its surface. Most of that water was subsequently lost to space.

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has detected Red Planet rocks similar to Earth's oldest continental crust. The discovery suggests that ancient Mars may have been more similar to ancient Earth than previously thought, researchers said.

No equipment workout - you only need a wall. Do it three times a week, on alternating days, to tighten up everywhere.

Resembling the puffs of smoke and sparks from a summer fireworks display in this image from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, these delicate filaments are actually sheets of debris from a stellar explosion in a neighboring galaxy. Hubble's target was a supernova remnant within the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a nearby, small companion galaxy to the Milky Way visible from the southern hemisphere.

On Oct 19, 2014, a comet had a near miss with Mars. Comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) passed closer to the red planet than any comet has ever passed to Earth in recorded history. Taking advantage of this unique opportunity to study the close interaction of a comet and a planet, humanity currently has five active spacecraft orbiting Mars. These and the two active rovers on the Martian surface have taken data and images that will be downloaded to Earth and likely studied for years…

Artist's impression of NASA's New Horizons probe flying past Pluto on July 15, 2015. Mission officials are currently looking for objects that the spacecraft could visit after this historic encounter.

The New Horizon's probe, seen above in this artist's impression, will use miniature cameras, radio science experiment, ultraviolet and infrared spectrometers to study the geology of Pluto and its moon Charon
