What to say during tantrums / positive parenting
Abby is 19 months and the tantrums are getting louder and more frequent!! (Raise your hand if this you too 🙋‍♀️) She was crying at the door because my husband had to leave. I tried to talk to her but every time I said something it was like adding fuel to the flame! I remembered that this is a normal behavior, nothing is wrong with my baby (she is only expressing her feelings) and I am not doing anything wrong either ( I am simply keeping her safe). So I just sat on the floor and offer comfort, I tried to stay as calm as possible knowing that she would sense my calmness (our mood is contagious!)… And she did!! Throwing is a common phase in toddlers that needs a lot of love and boundaries!   This is a simple way I set boundaries without yelling:   1. Expectations:   • I make sure to tell Abby what I expect from her, or what is the behavior that is acceptable.   • This is very important because it puts us in the same boat, now we both have the same information, it can be as simple as:  “We ride the bicycle, we don’t throw it”  2. Choices  • I love giving choices because this prevent power struggles, I am giving her control over the situation, this is what I expect from you, these are your choices, you pick!   In this case the choices were: “you can ride the bike or you can play with something else if you decide to throw it”  3. Let her pick:  • I make sure to give her two choices that I am ok w
