Accor Hotels - Youth Development in Thailand

To address the lack of education and employment opportunities for the vulnerable ethnic Karen minorities in Northern Thailand, the Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement (IECD) together with the Tak Border Child Assistance Foundation (TBCAF) founded the Hospitality & Catering Training Center (HCTC) which offers a hospitality and catering vocational training programme to young marginalised Karens, by providing both theoretical and practical training over a 2-year period, at no cost.
HCTC has partnered with Accor Hotels - one of the leading hotel chains in Thailand, to offer the students extended internships in their 4- and 5-star hotels as well as job placements after they complete their studies. This film tells the stories of two young Karen people, Nut and Kasemsri, as they learn all about cooking and service whilst studying at HCTC. Here they expand their horizons and prospects though internships and finally realise their dream jobs.

Kasemsri Bannangodngam is now a teacher at the Hospitality & Catering Training Center (HCTC)’s restaurant. As the first in her village to study at the school, graduate and get a job, she is an inspiration to other young people in the region to seek out and realise a better future for themselves and their families.

HCTC is a vocational school that trains students in all aspects of the hospitality industry - here they learn Thai and Western style cooking, restaurant service, housekeeping and front of house skills.
