Flooding in central Cape Town, 1904
Great Floods of 1904: this is what St George's Street looked like during the great flood of 1904 when the city was flooded twice in one week (June 23 and 25) as a crushing wall of water descended from Table Mountain. On the second day the torrents of water which came rushing down Wale Street inundated buildings in St George's Street and in neighbouring areas. In the Gardens people had to wade through their living rooms. Jeffrey's Collection Archives.
