Namaqualand, South Africa
Namaqualand is famous for its impressive fields of Namaqua daisies and other wildflowers. This beautiful region of South Africa was made famous by nature photographer, Freeman Patterson. www.freemanpatterson.com/book8.htm www.namaqualand.com I visited Namaqualand in mid August to catch the wildflowers in bloom. The weather was cold at night and cloudy during the day. Bring layers of clothing because it warmed up during the day and cooled off quickly at sunset.
The portulacaria afra (dwarf jade, elephant jade, spekboom) is native to South Africa where they are part of the African elephant's diet. So it was only fitting to add an elephant to the dwarf jade bonsai forests. Notice the resemblance of the plant's bark to the skin of the elephant. Just like in the wild.
