May 20, 1998, Kip Kinkel, 15, was suspended pending an expulsion hearing from Thurston High School for possession of a loaded, stolen handgun. That night, he shot & killed his parents. On May 21, he went to the school where he shot & killed 2 students and wounded 25 others. 7 students eventually subdued & disarmed him. At the police station, Kinkel lunged at an officer with a knife. The officer repelled Kinkel with pepper spray.. Kinkel pleaded guilty & was sentenced to 111 years in prison.
