This Pantocrator Deesis depicting Christ as ruler of the world is a Byzantine <strong>mosaic</strong> located in Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey. It is made with a technique of tesserae, or cut cubes of translucent colored glass and ceramics pieced together to form a picture. The gold is created with paper thin sheets of gold leaf sandwiched between two pieces of molten glass like a mirror. Glass mosaic was made in every color.
