The 'dum-dum' was a British military bullet developed at the Dum-Dum Arsenal in India. It was used on the North West Frontier and the Sudan in the late 1890s. The dum-dum comprised a jacketed .303 round with the jacket nose left open to expose its lead core. This increased the expansion of the bullet on hitting its target.
