For Today I am a Boy is about the only son of a Chinese family who knows from an early age that he is a girl in the body of a boy. Peter Huang struggles with reconciling his identity with the small town ideals that surround him as well as his immigrants parents' ideas about who he should be and how he should behave. A stunningly beautiful and moving debut, Kim Fu's For Today I am a Boy is a powerful introduction to a great new Canadian voice.
By the cover alone I was able to determine the historical whiff, it was likely about ragged mysteries of the human heart. I think this will be a successful cover - drawing exactly the readers that will enjoy it. I also love the befitting font used for the title. The color seems to conflict with the richer greens in the photo background. If the designer had color picked another color directly from the photo, either dark or light, I think it would have felt slightly more harmonious as a whole.
This book was beautifully written. I felt as though I had been transported to the early 1900's. It's truly unique and worth the read! ~C L~ 2014 The Museum of Extraordinary Things: A Novel by Alice Hoffman http://www.amazon.com/dp/1451693567/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_csQyub1ARWT2W
The Book of Madness and Cures-The book plunges the reader into the zeitgeist of an era when medical science rubbed shoulders with alchemy and astrology — and when any woman who claimed medical knowledge could be burned for witchcraft.
