This dress is the first from-scratch piece I’ve attempted in a while. It was also my first time drafting my own peter pan collar and I’m not sure velvet should have been my first fabric to try this with but it matched so well I couldn’ resist! I intended on adding a velvet belt but I had enough trouble with the collar and the covered buttons that I was sick of it by the time I finished. Haha. Hair, makeup and styling are my own. My first attempt at a ballet wrap skirt this week, and my first time working with chiffon! Hated cutting it but the result is nice for my first one I think. I have about half a dozen more to make and I’ll focus on tidying up the hem and top ribbon. I also think a double wrap skirt is in my future…but we’ll see ;)

This fun upcycle started out as a cute strapless dress shown in these before photos. Because of the dated cut, it was a hard dress to wear for day to day style. I removed the top portion and used it instead as the waist. The result is a much more wearable, versatile full skirt, shown here styled with a black halter top and full petticoat.

These shorts are just one of many high waisted pairs I’ve upcyled from previously gross, unflattering pants. Luckily all I had to do was chop and rehem. They flare out just like the classic ’50s pairs I lust after. The emerald shade has me hooked. Photos by Omar Oseguera
