Melba Roy, NASA Mathmetician, at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland in 1964. Ms. Roy led a group of NASA mathmeticians known as “computers” who tracked the Echo satellites. The first time I shared Ms. Roy on VBG, my friend Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, a former postdoc in astrophysics at NASA, helpfully explained what Ms. Roy did in the comment section. I am sharing Chanda’s comment again here: “By the way, since I am a physicist, I might as well explain a little bit about what

This image of a pair of interacting galaxies called Arp 273 was released to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The distorted shape of the larger of the two galaxies shows signs of tidal interactions with the smaller of the two. It is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger one.

Time Capsules — “Don't Open Before”, is the undergraduate thesis project of German designer Heike Hansen. The 348 page book is a compendium collecting and exploring the titular subject, drawing connections between famous, far-ranging works by Alfred Hitchcock, Andy Warhol and NASA among others. The design features an innovative use of metal foil, our typeface GT Haptik, and a large variety of suitably evocative imagery. Design: Heike Hansen
