In 2010, there were only 12 Sugarbush Draft Horses left. These horses are all that remain of this once noble breed, and many trace their lineage back to similar family lines. The Sugarbush Draft horse is a critically endangered breed. Due to the lack of genetic diversity in the Sugarbush Draft Horse Registry in 2008, the SDHR began searching for viable methods to save this breed. To our knowledge, there is no other "riding type" draft horse breed in existence, as well as no other "appaloosa" colored full size draft horses in North America.
