The Child Development Index is compiled when statistics are available. Data is collected from various studies and sources on three main questions: how many kids are in school, how likely is it a child will die before the age of five and how many underweight children are there globally. The lower the index, the higher the ranking. Japan scored highest at .35, Somalia the lowest, 54. Canada’s 6th place shows that on aggregate children in this country are fit and educated.
