French fur traders introduced the Type C fusil to Canada, as early as 1680. It was the standard French trade gun, until replaced by the simpler Type D fusil about 1730. No two Type C fusils were exactly alike. Two styles were made: the fusil ordinaire was not decorated, while the fusil fin had engraving on the buttplate comb and triggerguard finials.

18th/19th Century Flintlock Rifle crafted by Nicholas Noel Boutet, Nicholas Noel Boutet was a French gunmaker during the late 18th and early 19th century popular for making fine quality pieces.  Clientele included various wealthy nobles, European rulers, and even the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.  While the flintlock rifle above is not signed in his name it has been proven to be of his work. .351 inch Winchester Self Loading In the early part of WWI the French bought over 2,800 automatic rifles from Winchester, a mixture of about 2,000 Model 1907 in .351 inch calibre and about 850 Model 1910 in .401 inch calibre. These were to be used for arming aircraft before the successful introduction of machine guns.

French-made Giffard Carbonic Gas rifles and pistols were produced around 1890 in 6mm and 8mm caliber (and maybe others). Liquid Co2 not being commercially available at the time, the chamber was filled with dry ice that reverts to liquid/gaseous Co2 in a sealed chamber. Here, it sports a modern replacement cylinder.
