It was sometimes called the German "crocodile," because of its resemblance to a Swiss locomotive.  18 units were built between 1933 and 1939.  It often operated on the "Geislinger Steige," a steep climb on the rail line between Stuttgart and Munich.  This photo was taken in the Heilbronn station yard.
