Dry River Chardonnay Martinborough, New Zealand Bottle No. 2686. Golden yellow in colour, clear and bright. Ripe citrus and peach and a mix of other stonefruits provide a delightful aroma. There were also well integrated hints of oak and yeastiness which all added to the complexity. The fruit and acid were well balanced and the length strong and persistent. This is a really elegant wine which has become all the better with 9 years of careful cellaring.

Te Mata Estate Woodthorpe Syrah/Viognier 2004. Made by co-fermenting Syrah with 5% Viogenier which adds a perfumed foral aroma. Lots of ripe red plum with hints of cedary character with a spicy/peppery finish. This wine has aged well and has definitely improved with 8 - 10 years in the cellar. For $24.95 (when purchased in 2007) this is a great New Zealand example of a Rhone style wine. If anyone else has tried this wine recently, I would interested on hearing their thoughts.
