The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood

The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood -- finally read this classic dystopian novel. The writing style threw me a bit off at times, but this is definitely a classic - very thought-provoking and engaging.

After my dad recorded the film for me to watch when I was about 16 years old, I sought out the book 'The Handmaid's Tale' and as a budding feminist and dystopian fiction fan devoured it. So when it came to choosing two novels to compare for my A-Level English Literature assignment, I immediately chose this as my first novel. After having to analyse the treatment of women for my essay, I actually love this novel even more.

the book that started it all for me (apart from To Kill A Mockingbird) - this book has been labeled sci-fi for the longest time - I claim it as part of the YA fiction genre as it has inspired so many storylines that young people enjoy reading today

First read this years ago (junior high?) and every time I re-read it, I'm stunned by the sheer brilliance of this book.
