Wood-fired Pitcher, #320: This pitcher measures 9" tall. It went into the kiln with no glaze or decoration on the outside of the piece. During the three-day firing, using three cords of Chinese Elm fuel, the ash from the wood landed on the pitcher and created an all-natural-ash-glazed surface. You can rather imagine the flames sweeping around this piece, leaving their fire-marks. Elegant and understated at the same time.

This is one of my favorite ash effects from wood firing: The blue, shiny surface. I want to make dragons to fire in a wood kiln, enough of them to put in various parts of the kiln and hopefully get some of that blue on them.
