Abandoned City Methodist Church in Gary, Indiana. It opened in 1925 as part of a complex that included an education building, a theater, and a commercial retail structure. As Gary was abandoned the church membership fell from 3,000 to 150. It was closed in 1975.
ianference: Wrought iron spiral staircase in Nurses’ Building on North Brother Island, New York. Founded in the 1850s as a Smallpox Hospital to treat and isolate victims of that disease. Its mission eventually expanded to other quarantinable diseases. Typhoid Mary was confined to the island for over two decades until she died there in 1938. The hospital closed shortly thereafter. Now a bird sanctuary, the island is currently abandoned
