Circa 565 AD (Late Antique) Byzantine silver spoon with traces of niello found in Kurin, Syria; Walters (Acc 57.651). 1" h x 7 1/16" l (2.5 x 18 cm); bowl: 1 7/16" w (3.7 cm). Per Walters: Host soaked in wine and presented to communicants in spoons like this one. Inscription "For the prayer of Heliodorus" Church in Kaper Koraon owned numerous silver vessels; 56 survive. A holy oil bottle and a chalice were also donated by the same donor Heliodorus.
