Willingham credits Lucca with saving his life on numerous occasions, and now in her retirement Lucca gets to enjoy her days as a " family pet " with him.

She served two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. As a bomb sniffing dog, Luca saved hundreds of lives until her service was cut short by an IED. She was medivaced off the battlefield and the injury resulted in having her front leg amputated.
