'A Noble Ancestor' by David Knowles (1875 - 1902) It is possible that this is the painting that the artist subsequently exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1889 under the title "My Mother". Davidson Knowles was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists where he exhibited over fifty narrative genre paintings between 1875 and 1895. Signed.
