This photograph was taken in 1959, in Moscow, when the Soviet Union unofficially allowed designers to stage fashion shows and stopped persecuting people for wearing trendy clothes. Dior held a fashion show, which was shown to the Soviet elite and higher up members of the Communist party. However, to show the clothes to the people of Moscow, Dior took to the streets (which is how this picture came about).
Finian CUNNINGHAM: It would be monumental, but Western states seem to be moving, ineluctably, towards banning Russian news media channels from satellite platforms and the internet. That outcome – albeit with enormous ethical and political implications – seems to be a logical conclusion of the increasingly frenzied transatlantic campaign to demonize Russia.
