"Combing hair" by Osman Hamdi Bey. Painted by the Turkish artist in about 1900. Osman Hamdi was unusual as a native of the Ottoman Empire who had trained with western orientalist painters like Gerome. His images are a lot more conservative than the French artists and are similar to J.F. Lewis's work from half a century before.
These Venetian chopines (ca 1600) are made of pine-wood. A chopine is a type of women's platform shoe that was popular in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Chopines were originally used as a patten, clog, or overshoe to protect the shoes and dress from mud and street soil.
I like this bathroom for a casual beach house. Not sure of the impact on resale. But heck, not my problem since this is my retirement home and selling will be my estates problem. And a good beach front location home would probably sell with a family of Tasmanian Devils living in the pantry.
