Father Damien of Molokai, was member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. For 16 years he cared for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of those in the leper colony of Molokaʻi. He eventually contracted and died of the disease. On October 11, 2009, Father Damien was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in a ceremony at the Vatican, thus becoming St. Damien. St. Damien of Molokai, pray for us and all those who suffer from leprosy.
