Mammoth-bone flute proves that German cavemen played music in 40,000 BC

Mammoth-bone flute proves that German cavemen played music in 40,000 BC

German Universität Tübingen, reported having found in the Geißenklösterle cave, the oldest musical instruments to date, this bone flute and others in ivory dated about 42000 years old.

The carnyx was a wind instrument of the Iron Age Celts, used between c. 300 BC and c. AD 200. It was a type of bronze trumpet, held vertically, the bell styled in the shape of a boar's, or other animal's, head. It was used in warfare, probably to incite troops to battle and intimidate opponents.

An ancient Celtic artifact found some 60 years ago in the Italian Alps has been identified as a Celtic war horn called a carnyx, archaeologists say.
