Apple reported its third consecutive quarter of falling profits amid sliding iPhone sales. Net income for the fourth quarter plunged by 19 per cent to $9 billion from $11.1 billion in the same period last year, as revenue fell to $46.9 billion from $51.5 billion. Apple said that it sold 45.5 million iPhones in the fourth quarter, down from 48 million a year ago. Sales of iPads fell to 9.3 million from 9.9 million and Mac sales dropped to 4.9 million from 5.7 million.
