Built by Mississippi riverboat Captain John Scudder in 1895 as a summer residence it was locally known as “Scudder’s cottage.” Every room had a fireplace. (A historical marker located in Oconomowoc in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.
On January 31, 1846, Carroll College, in Waukesha, was chartered by the territorial legislature. It is the oldest college in Wisconsin. The college was named for Charles Carroll, who signed the Declaration of Independence. WHI Image ID: 37214 - Carroll College in the 1890's
