Everyone should read this, especially white people.  It helps you understand how deeply seeded racism is in this country, and its an amazing read on top of that.

Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of the Island have been read over and over and over again. I think the first one is my favorite because heedless, romantic, optimistic Anne is constantly getting herself in trouble and the results are hilarious. The next two books are still funny but Anne learns prudence as she gets older, so her mistakes aren't quite as childish. Overall just warm, good-hearted novels.
