Château de Brézé ~ Maine-et-Loire ~ Pays de la Loire ~ France ~ It was built in the 11th century, then rebuilt for King Charles VII in the 15th century, and owned by René de Cossé, who the king named as governor of Anjou and Maine. The Chateau is haunted by a 14th century former owner's wife and lover, whom the owner caught and killed when their tryst became known. The owner, Jacques de Breze, left the castle after being scared by the moaning of the lovers' ghosts, and sold it soon after.
