Precisely how not to keep a betta. Unheated, boring, too small. These fish are tropical, love to swim, and are intelligent and curious. They will do much better in a larger, heated aquarium with lots of plants to interact with.

Self cleaning fish tank, you just pour in a glass of water, and the dirty water comes out the spout!

Another example of someone being told - incorrectly - that this is an acceptable way to keep bettas. Petshops have so much to answer for! Absolute minimum tank capacity should be one gallon, to allow for swimming space and cleanliness. Bettas should have a heater to keep the water between 78 and 82F (their optimum range, as they are tropical fish). Terrestrial plants will not clean the water.
