Explore Teacher Storyteller, Author Teacher and more!

Once I Was Cool by Megan Stielstra - I loved reading these personal essays by an author/teacher/storyteller. She's a generous and sharing writer, and the wonderful title leads to great reading.

Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls Essays, Etc. by David Sedaris - Let's explore all kinds of stuff with David Sedaris! His stories never get old, and I keep reading knowing the next really funny bit is just around the page.

The Obituary Writer by Ann Hood - A lovely little novel about two women from different eras.

Cool, Calm & Contentious by Merrill Markoe - Comedy writers write the best books. Conversational, observational and honest to a fault. Loved it.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple - The hot read of the year. Light fun reading.

Bob Dylan Chronicles Volume One by Bob Dylan - Intelligent and casual. I loved reading this book.

The Collected Stories by Amy Hempel - These are short stories often voiced by women, mostly in the first person. Some are super short, some are super long, all are thoughtful and make for great reading.

The People in the Photo by Helene Gestern - As I was reading this book of an unlikely fictional correspondence in this day and age of keyboards and texting, I was thoroughly enjoying it. After the fact, I can say that it's a light read not without particular charms.

Walking In Circles Before Lying Down by Merrill Markoe - I've really enjoyed reading all of Merrill's books. They are LA stories and often involve insightful dogs who enhance their owners' lives. This is a great little read!
