Discover Alaska's Magnificent Glacier Bay National Park on a Boutique Adventure Cruise
Taken during our trip to Alaska in July in Glacier Bay. The air is as spectacular as the surroundings ~ the freshest your lungs have ever inhaled. What a treat to experience one of the jewels of the USA ~ a dream come true!
As the glaciers melt away, the exposed rock is recolonized by lichens and mosses. These cover the rock and break down to build the first hints of soil, as well as provide food for animals. Next, dryas finds a footing in the rock and spreads into a carpet of vegetation, inviting wildflowers and grasses to take root as well.
Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Alaska We were hoping to see 'calving' or the ice break off of the glacier...we didn't need to worry. That day the sun was out and the glacier calved about every five minutes. We saw tons of seals, sea lions and even parts of whales as they breached the surface. Yes, the glacier is really this vibrant blue color.
