The Greatest Food Still Lifes in Art History

Arcimboldo // Arcimboldo is known as a 16th-century Mannerist. A transitional period from 1520 to 1590, Mannerism adopted some artistic elements from the High Renaissance and influenced other elements in the Baroque period. Arcimboldo also tried to show his appreciation of nature through his portraits.

For a time, Arcimboldo painted portraits in Prague in the court of the Holy Roman Empire. Here is a portrait of Rudolf II, the Holy Roman Emperor at the time, painted as Vertumnus, Roman god of the seasons.
